Everyday Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy for your every day life

There are tens if not hundreds of ways to use aromatherapy in your daily life. Only your imagination will set you limits. In this blog I will share some ideas on how you can use them in your daily life

The most well known ideas for aromatherapy are body and face products. You can easily blend your oils in ready made base products for personalised skincare. I would recommend flower oils and many of the wood/ resin oils are great in skin care. I would avoid using a lot of citrus oils as some of them are photo toxic and may cause pigmentation on the skin. You can use citrus oils in shower gel for energy boost.

You can use essential oils for therapeutic bath in Epsom or Himalayan salts or oil base. Again avoid using citrus oils as they are quite acidic, flower oils, herbal oils and wood oils are great. A few drops goes a long way, so five drops in tablespoon of base oils mixed with salts is enough. You can add dry flowers like rose or lavender to the mix to give the slats some colour.

Bath bombs

If you're feeling more creative you can make your own bath bombs or soaps. It's easier than you might think and great fun. This way you are able to create your own products and they make great gifts too for that personalised touch. You can use silicone moulds or even muffin cups to get your desired shape and let them dry, then just wrap them in a foil with some ribbon. For soap making there are plenty of videos and instructions online for you to choose from the one that feels easiest for you. You can also buy melt and pour soap base which is easy to use and perfect for first time practice.

You can make your own room/ pillow sprays by mixing essential oils and water in a spray bottle.  Just remember to shake well before spraying and be aware the oils may stain your fabric. Again flower oils are great for this, for relaxation try lavender and for energising go for peppermint or eucalyptus.

If you're feeling brave making your own perfumes is also great fun, for this you need some preservative like alcohol to keep the scent. You can also make a balm with beeswax, which is another great way to use essential oils as a perfume. Check out my blog about this here

Electric room diffusers have become popular in the past few years. They are easy to use as they will switch off after the water has run out, so you can use them in the evening as well as during the day. Just add water and your favourite essential oils, use citrus oils sparingly as the are acidic and may corrode the machine. You can use lavender essential oil to clean your diffuser.

Don't forget the simple way of a few drops on your pillow, oils like lavender are great for relaxation. Be aware they may leave stains on your pillow fabric

If you are feeling creative, you can also make your own candles and reed diffusers, I would recommend using max 10% essential oil in a candle as it can be challenging to get them to burn if using too much fragrance. Use natural wax and you can make great gift by pouring the candle in to a lovely container or even a coffee cup. You can find lovely and affordable containers from eBay or Amazon.
